The single best way I've found to use Rakuten for a Cancun trip: book your tours and excursions on Viator through Rakuten first. It's usually one of Rakuten's highest-earning categories.
Cash back, if you're earning cash
Amex or Bilt points per dollar, if you switch your earning preference
On a $300 day of excursions at a 14% rate, that's about $42 back, or roughly 4,200 transferable points instead. Book directly through the Plancun Viator shop (not the app) in one session for the cleanest tracking, and check our Activities & Excursions page for tour ideas before you book.
Rates change often and can spike higher during promotions, always check the current rate on Rakuten before booking. Theme park purchases, virtual tours, and canceled bookings aren't eligible.
Route a purchase you were already planning to make through Rakuten first:
Beyond Viator, plenty of the sites you'd already use for hotel research and booking are Rakuten partners too, worth checking before you book:
Cash-back rates and current promotions vary by store, check Rakuten directly for the live rate before booking. See our Hotels guide for help choosing where to stay.
